# Interactive map attribution

Resource coordinates, explorer locations, group labels and terrain references are
adapted from the [ARK Official Community Wiki](https://ark.wiki.gg/) and its contributors:

- [Resource maps](https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Resource_Map)
- [Explorer maps](https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Explorer_Map)
- [Wiki copyright policy](https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/ARK_Wiki:Copyrights)

Wiki-derived datasets are distributed under
[CC BY-NC-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/), independently
of the application code license. Each map JSON records every source page, revision,
source update time, fetch time and artwork file page. Artwork credits and rights
statements are available through that file page. ARK game content and artwork
remain the property of Studio Wildcard and their respective rights holders.

Changes: source includes are resolved, duplicate points are merged, HTML is
converted to plain text, markers are grouped into filter categories, coordinates
are normalized into compact tuples, and terrain images are resized by the wiki's
thumbnail service and hosted locally. Background alignment is preserved. ASA and
ASE sources are kept separate; ASE nodes are not presented as verified ASA data.
Incomplete source coverage is shown in the interface. The fetch date does not
indicate that every location was verified against the current game build.

ASA Bob's Tall Tales notes are separated from ordinary explorer notes using
their existing wiki titles (Frontier Tales, Steampunk Ascent and Wasteland
Tales). This is a presentation classification, not a new coordinate dataset.
Original note titles, coordinates and saved progress identities are retained.
The Island's Dear Jane letters are a separate collection from Tall Tales and
remain in Explorer notes.

Refresh with `npm run data:update:maps`, then rebuild the website. The browser
loads only the selected map dataset and image. Personal pins are browser-local
user data and are not part of the wiki-derived datasets.

## Additional ASA resource coordinates

Missing ASA resource families are supplemented with factual resource world
positions published by [flintthatchwood's ARK Resource Maps](https://github.com/flintthatchwood/flintthatchwood.github.io).
[Source records and revisions](RESOURCE-SURVEY.json) record the immutable Git
revision, upstream file URL, file SHA-256, source update time and refresh time for
each official ASA map. Credit: flintthatchwood; underlying game content belongs
to Studio Wildcard and its respective rights holders.

Only resource-type observations, XYZ positions and coordinate calibration values
are used. The external viewer's software, terrain, imagery and creature spawn
database are not copied. World X/Y are converted to longitude/latitude using
the map-specific center and scale; elevation is retained, identical XYZ records
are deduplicated, and output coordinates are rounded to three decimal places.
These positions supplement resource families absent from our wiki snapshot;
existing wiki locations and rich-deposit classifications are retained.

The survey has partial resource-type coverage and does not classify cave,
surface or underwater access. Its locations appear only in the combined
surface/caves view. Source counts are observations, not a guarantee of an
accessible or currently spawned resource on a particular server. No claim of
in-game verification or completeness is made. Survey materials retain their
respective rights; the wiki's CC BY-NC-SA license applies to wiki-derived layers,
not to this independent source or its software.

Refresh the additional resource positions with `npm run data:update:map-resources`.
`npm run data:update:maps` refreshes the wiki snapshots and then supplements them.
